Sigtec delivers solutions for the public transport authorities that will assist in improving services and delivering real time passenger information. The RAPID™ Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system has been primarily developed for enhancing bus, tram, rail and ferry services.
RAPID™ tracks public transport systems, monitoring service adherence and gives managers the visibility and flexibility to better administer their fleet. It predicts the arrival of a service at each stop and notifies waiting passengers when to expect the next service on the various routes that use that stop.
It also advises passengers on the each vehicle or vessel of the next stop along their route, and helps the operator keep to a timetable with real time schedule adherence displays, headway management displays and automatic priority at traffic signals.

RAPID™ incorporates:
Tracking
AVL for Real-time location of vehicles showing current route and services and performance against schedule. Each vehicle automatically determines its location once every second using GPS, odometer and route matching. Together with events and equipment status, this information is sent to a central processor using digital wireless communications (GPRS).
Traffic Priority
Automatic priority for late vehicles at signalized intersections on suitable intersections RAPID™ automatically delivers priority for buses. Smart monitoring and a fully functioning interface to the SCATS Traffic control system means that late buses can be assisted whilst minimizing traffic disruptions due to early buses.
Equipment
On Board driver console and RCU (Rapid Control Unit) the central communications hub on the transit vehicle. Sealed against dust and water and built for the temperature and vibration levels experienced on buses and rail the RCU puts the intelligence right where it is needed – in the vehicle.
Real-Time information
Getting service information to waiting passengers using on street displays, SMS and the Web as RAPID™ predicts the arrival time of the next vehicle at stops and intersections along its route. Passengers get real time information on their planned trip as well as advice of cancellations and delays. On the vehicle RAPID™ delivers passengers information on the next stop using displays and audio as well as current service information. There is a range of scalable options for the presentation of information at stops.
